CLOSET CLEANOUT - HOW TO BUILD YOUR CORE WARDROBE

BUILD THE WARDROBE OF YOUR DREAMS

A dream wardrobe is 100% wearing power! Everything in it is something you want to wear, and feel great wearing. Isn't that what it's all about? Confidence, wear it, walk it, feel it!

It might take some time to purchase all the pieces you need, but it will be well worth it in the end!

STEP 1- SORT & ELIMINATE

Just like Marie Kondo, pull everything out of your closet and your drawers, and throw onto your bed.
Go through each piece...One by one, and answers these questions...

1. Does it fit anymore?...I know we all want to lose weight, but unless it will be in the next month, it doesn't really fit. Toss.

2. Is it stained or ruined beyond a quick repair? (button missing, garment needs hemmed, etc). Fix or TOSS.

3. Am I holding onto this for sentimental reasons? (My prom dress, wedding dress, etc) Decide how important, and move any items you don't wear daily to a different location. ( attic storage, another closet, etc) or give away to a needy person or non-profit.

4. Is it out of style? If it's a CLASSIC INVESTMENT PIECE, then keep, but otherwise TOSS! We are all keeping some of these, waiting for them to come back into style. lol..Our CLOSET IS PRECIOUS REAL ESTATE! ...Toss.

Step 2- Build A Core Wardrobe

You can have all the clothes in the world, but if nothing works together, you outfit options are LIMITED! Instead of buying new clothes, BUILD A CORE WARDROBE.

A CORE WARDROBE is made up of separates that you can mix and match to create a variety of great outfits!

A CORE WARDROBE consists of 5 BASIC SEPARATES:
1. A Basic Classic White Button Down Blouse
2. A Basic Black Suit- Slim Fitted Black  (casual or dress pant)
3. A Signature Jacket ( black leather or denim)
4. A Great fitting Pair of Blue Jeans
5. A Basic Skirt (determined by your body shape)

Once you have built your CORE WARDROBE, you can easily update it by adding the latest accessories, shoes, handbags, sunglasses, belts and scarves.

No need to buy a new wardrobe every season. SHOP the new trends every season for T-shirts, Tanks, Sweaters, etc.. but keep the Classic CORE WARDROBE Pieces the same.

Step 3- Do A Wardrobe Inventory

After steps 1 and 2 are completed, you will begin your CLOTHING INVENTORY. This will show you exactly what you have, and what you will need to buy, to build your CORE WARDROBE.

1. First STORE OUT OF SEASON CLOTHES in another closet or storage boxes. Work on 1 season at a time. This will keep the task from becoming overwhelming.

2. Fold all LOUNGEWEAR, SLEEPWEAR, and UNDERGARMENTS etc, and store in drawers or top shelf of closet.

3. Now you are ready to ONLY INVENTORY your day to day Wardrobe Pieces for STYLING OUTFITS. LIST key CORE WARDROBE pieces listed above, if you need to buy them. Put them on a MASTER SHOPPING LIST.

4. Pull out your favorite trendy pieces ( shirts, tanks, sweaters, etc) and lay them out on bed. Try to limit these items for easier OUTFIT COORDINATION.

5. Start planning your outfits by Color Matching, and Your Personal Color Analysis.

Step 4- Outfit Styling

The next step in this process is ACTUALLY COORDINATING YOUR OUTFITS. This is the fun part! Take your time, get creative, and don't forget to TAKE OUTFIT PHOTOS, AND STORE IN YOUR PHONE FOR QUICK ACCESS!

1. Try on existing outfits including shoes and accessories.
-- Anything missing?
-- Does it need a belt?
-- Are the shoes appropriate?
-- Does it require a different bra?

Add you needs to your MASTER SHOPPING LIST.

Step 5- Shop Smart

Grab your MASTER SHOPPING LIST, and you are ready to finalize building your CORE WARDROBE. Remember to have fun, most of all!

1. Concentrate on your CORE WARDROBE pieces first, then add with your other elements. This will give you a little outline for the rest.

2. Choose styles that flatter your body type and Compliment Your Fashion Personality.

3. If you want to appear taller, and more slender, wear one color from head to toe. Dark Colors elongate and slim the body.

4. Buy year round fabrics, like wool, crepe, rayon, rayon blends, cotton and polyester to cut costs and add greater versatility.

5. Buy clothes that fit. You may want to be a smaller size, but too tight, ot too big is slouchy, not stylish.
